Department of Agricultural Chemistry and Soil Science came into existence in the year 1955 with the establishment of Rajasthan College of Agriculture, Udaipur. The department is involved in teaching, research and extension activities. Post-graduate teaching in the discipline of Soil Science started in July 1963 while Ph.D. by thesis and course work in 1964 and 1971, respectively. Department is giving services to the farming communities by supplying biofertilitizers, vermiculture and vermi compost in addition to this soil and water testing for agricultural purposes is provided to farming communities. Staff have completed a number of successful projects under various mode like NA TP-PCR, NATP-CGP, AICRP, ICAR Adhoc project, AICAR- adhoc projects and from various private agencies. Department have successfully organized a number of activities including Winter Schools, Workshops, Trainings etc.

Laboratories of the department are adequately equipped with most of the modern scientific instrument viz; Atomic absorption spectrophoto meter, uv-vs spectro meter, water purification system, Gas liquid Chromatography, Nitrogen analyzer, Laminar flow, Geographic information system (GIS) Autoclave with Neem jacket, Nitrogen digestion cum Distillation unit etc.

Seminar room, class rooms are well equipped. UG and PG teaching laboratories and specific laboratories such as micro-nutrient, microbiology, soil technology etc. The department has three glass and net houses. Facilities of Central laboratory of the college is also available.
