The
Department of Horticulture, Rajasthan College of Agriculture
came in to existence in 1957 for graduate level teaching.
Post graduate teaching was started in July, 1965 and Ph.D.
in the year 1970. At present intake capacity of M.Sc. Horti.
is of six students and intake of Ph.D. varies from 3 to 5
students. The department has been carrying out teaching,
research and extension activities in the field of
horticulture in the integrated manner with department as a
unit. However, the department shall award degree in the
major specialization namely Fruit Science, Vegetable
Science, Floriculture and Landscape gardening. The
department has two AICRP research projects on Sub-tropical
Fruits, Floriculture and Medicinal & Aromatic Plants funded
by ICAR, New Delhi. Besides, some short term research
project funded by ICAR and other agencies are also running
in the department in order to develop new technologies for
production as well as post harvest handling of horticultural
crops. This department occasionally take part in the
extension activities organised by the extension department,
State Govt. Deptt. and other interested groups. |
