Nematological Research

nematological problems of crucial national and international
importance like "Molya disease" of wheat and barley caused
by Heterodera avenae, root knot disease specially on
vegetables and pulses caused by Meloidogyne spp., reniform
rematode disease in pulses, oil seed & fiber crops by
Rotylenchulus reniformis, Ear cockle & Tundu diseases of
wheat by Anguina tritici and A. tritici +
Clavibacter
tritici respectively, maize cyst nematode disease on maize
by Heterodera zeae, citrus nematode disease on citrus by
Tylenchulus semipenetrans etc. and to give intense attention
to tackle nematological problems of the state and losses
caused by these important crop pests, there was urgent
feeling which required creation of a separate department and
intensify the work for the benefit of farmers of the state.
Therefore, Department of Nematology was created in the year
1978. later in addition to the research, post - graduate
teaching programme started in 1980. The Ph. D. work was
taken up, by some of the staff members and students of other
