The department mainly deals with the art of selecting and constructing garments for an individual and for the family.

The main objective of the department is to enable students to understand the selection, construction and care of family clothing. It helps in developing appreciation for art in all the aspects of personal and family living. It further helps in appreciating the importance of textiles in the economic and cultural life of man and to know how to select suitable and durable clothing and household fabrics, factors affecting wearing qualities and appearance of the fabric and to make the consumers aware of these by giving them practical knowledge.

The knowledge of various textiles depending on their end use is contributed through this area by making the students aware and skilled at stencil, block and screen printing, tie and dye and batik work. Besides this, it also develops practical skills in students about designing, and constructing clothing for the family. Repairing and renovating, storage and laundering and soap making are some of the major aspects of this area, which enable students to economize their resources.
