About RCA

Rajasthan College of Agriculture

The Rajasthan College of Agriculture (RCA) established in 1955 with an objective to impart education in agriculture leading to degree of B.Sc.(Ag.). The PG classes started in 1960. The college acquired all facilities to launch Ph.D programme as early as 1962. Since then the college has produced 3088 graduates, 2166 post graduates and 499 Ph.Ds. This college has the distinction of being one of the oldest Agricultural College which has produced internationally reputed scientists and stalwarts like Director General ICAR and Secretary DARE, Chairman ASRB, Chairman CACP, Vice-Chancellor's SAU's, Dy. Director General, National Director NATP and Deans & Directors in SAUs in India and abroad. Some of the alumni have established leadership in Industries. In agricultural growth witnessed in the State of Rajasthan has been contributed by the human resources developed by this college as majority of officers in department of agriculture and development are the alumni of this college.

As on to-day RCA is running PG and Ph.D. programmes in the disciplines of Agronomy, Ag. Chemistry & Soil Science, Plant Breeding & Genetics, Entomology, Plant Pathology, Extension Education, Molecular Biology & Bio technology Nematology and Horticulture. While the department of Ag. Economics & Management offers new MBA (Agri – Business) Degree. The commitment of RCA towards academic excellence and scientific and technological support for agricultural development of the region is evident from the fact that a large number professional societies of International and National repute viz. The Indian Society of Mycology & Plant Pathology, The Entomological Research Association, Society of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, Udaipur Chapter of Entomological Society of India, Udaipur Chapter of the Society of Agronomy, Udaipur Chapter of the Indian Society of Soil Science and Rajasthan Society of Extension Education are sited here.

As a part of new initiatives in teaching, a new Department of Molecular Biology and Bio-technology has been opened with the modern equipments and excellent tissue culture facilities.  In order to develop entrepreneurship in the area of protected cultivation of vegetables and flowers, a model of Hi-tech Horticulture Unit has been established with the help of financial support of Rs. 2.82 crore from ICAR.  The Instructional Farms of the college have undergone considerable modernization in recent past to provide excellent environment to the students for conducting research. A automatic Seed Processing Centre has also been established on Agronomy Farm. Having celebrated Golden Jubilee of its establishment during 2005-06, Rajasthan College of Agriculture stands as a monument of hard work and dedication in the service of stakeholders.

To project Rajasthan College of Agriculture as an Ideal College of Agriculture in the country towards excellence in education by imparting employment oriented quality education and developing new technologies which lead to economic empowerment of farming community

Mandate

  • To impart teaching for development of human resource in agriculture and training in different branches of agriculture and allied fields
  • To accomplish advancement of learning and conducting research seeking solutions to emerging problems for livelihood enhancement
  • To support extension education programme for upliftment of rural masses.

 

Department of Agricultural Economics and Management

 

Overview

A separate Department of Agricultural Economics came into existence in the year 1964 as a part of Agriculture discipline. In the year 2001, the name of the Department was changed to the Department of Agricultural Economics and management. Master level degree programme was started in the year 1964 and Ph.D. programme was started in the year 1972. In the year 2009-10, Master of Business Administration (Agri-Business) Programme was also started. So far 23 and 122 Scholars completed their Ph.D. and Master degree, respectively. Presently intake capacity is four in M.Sc. (Ag. Econ.), twenty in MBA (Agri-Business) and two in Ph.D degree programme. So far 19 research projects have been successfully completed in the Department. Comprehensive Scheme of Cost of Cultivation of Principal Crops (CCPC) in Rajasthan sponsored by Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India is running in the Department since 1970. Currently, two NAIP projects i.e. establishing and networking of agricultural market intelligence in India and strengthening statistical computing for NARS under component-I are also running in the department.

Facilities

In addition to the office and sitting rooms for staff members, department has one UG class room of 30 student’s capacity, one class room of 20 students capacity for MBA (agri-business) class, one seminar room of 40 seats capacity and one library with 3100 books, theses, journals & reports. Department is also equipped with the modern computer lab, market intelligence cell, ICICI Bank training unit etc.

MBA (Agri-Business)

Introduction

The new millennium started with the challenges of globalization. To meet out these challenges all organizations are now redesigning their product and service policies. According to the response of market opportunities MPUAT, Udaipur, started a two years full time MBA (Agri-Business) programme. In this programme agriculture graduates are well trained and exposed to the best of the management practices in agribusiness & rural marketing. Students are also exposed to interaction with the agro-based companies/industries & regular market visit to gain more & more practical knowledge relating to rural malls, food retailing agribusiness centers/ agri finance supply chain management and so on.

To develop students towards a sense of pride in agri-business profession.

Mission

The mission of the Agri-business program is to promote professionals with managerial competence for corporate & self-employment sector in areas related to agriculture. The program will also provide diverse technical services and consultancies to agro-based industries & other stakeholders.

  1. To develop the professionals decision making skills & techniques related to agri- business through training programs.
  2. To provide high class education facility to the students so as to equip them for big careers in agribusiness & rural marketing areas.
