RECENT PROJECTS AT DIRECTORATE OF EXTENSION EDUCATION & KVKs

The University extension network has been seized of the science and technology needs of the rural population in the agriculture sector and is playing a major role in improving livelihoods through the projects undertaken by the University over the years. These projects aim to demonstrate the feedback on the operational, technological and social constraints. The important projects undertaken with specific objectives are mentioned as below:

  • Cluster Demonstration on Food Processing and Value Addition of Maize and Wheat under Central Scheme of Nutri-farms (RKVY)

    It was sanctioned during 2014-15 amounting Rs. 105.0 lac by Directorate of Agriculture, Govt. of Rajasthan, Jaipur. The project was implemented in identified mall nutritious districts for improving the nutritional status of children and rural women in MPUAT service area.The programme is implemented in Baran, Dungarpur, Rajsamand, Sirohi and Udaipur districts.

  • Capacity Building on Production Technology of Tree Borne Oilseeds on Wasteland

    It was sanctioned during 2015-16 amounting Rs. 7.0 lacs by Division of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, Bio-fuel Authority, Govt. of Rajasthan Jaipur with the objectives: (1) To create awareness about improved agro-techniques of TBO’s (2) To impart knowledge about bio-fuel polices and strategies (3) To analyze constraints in marketing of TBO seeds. The participants were district and block level officers of line department of Agriculture, stakeholders, NGO’s and Progressive farmers. The district covered were Banswara, Bhilwara, Chittorgarh, Dungarpur, Pratapgarh, Rajsamand and Udaipur. The number of participants in each training were 50. Two trainings were conducted in Bhilwara, Chittorgarh, Pratapgarh and Rajsamand and while one training was organized in Udaipur, Dungarpur and Banswara.

  • National Agricultural Innovation Project (NAIP)

    Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture & Technology, Udaipur completed NAIP sub-project “Livelihood and Nutritional Security of Tribal Dominated Areas through Integrated Farming System and Technology Models” with budget outlay of Rs. 2398.22 lacs in the four disadvantaged districts of southern Rajasthan viz., Banswara, Dungarpur, Sirohi and Udaipur by involving 7 Consortia partners with 16344 farm households in 10 clusters comprising 90 villages. Out of the total farm households, 77 per cent were under ST category. The main aim of the project was to improve livelihood security of rural people living in the selected villages through technology-led innovations. The major activities involved components of Integrated Farming System and adoption of improved technologies. Market linkages and synergy with ongoing programmes were further strengthened. Major emphasis was given on developing mechanisms for post project sustainability of livelihood of the targeted families.

    Out of total sustainability fund available with the project at the end of project period of Rs.3.656 crores, Rs. 1.018 Crores have been released for utilization during 2014-15 for the activities like seed replacement in existing crops, vegetable cultivation, breed improvement in goats, pipe irrigation, backyard poultry, safe storage of grains, animal treatment camps emerged as high pay-off interventions.

     

  • RKVY- Pulses and Oilseeds Project

    Augmenting the productivity of major kharif pulses in South and South–eastern Rajasthan

    A project entitled Augmenting the productivity of major pulses in south and south eastern Rajasthan was sanctioned in 2010-11. The project was sanctioned under Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojna, Government of Rajasthan. The main objective of the project was to enhance the pulse productivity by maintaining soil fertility and to provide nutritional security to the farming community. The duration of project was three years and the total outlay was Rs. 5.61 crores. The work has already been executed in south and south eastern part of Rajasthan through the KVKs in all 12 districts of south and south eastern Rajasthan.

  • Augmenting the productivity of major kharif oilseeds in South and South–eastern Rajasthan

    A project entitled Augmenting the productivity of major kharif oilseeds in south and south eastern Rajasthan was sanctioned in 2013-14 for three years with budget out lay of Rs. 414 lacs. The project was sanctioned under Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojna, Government of Rajasthan. The work has already been executed in south and south eastern part of Rajasthan through the KVKs in all 12 districts of south and south eastern Rajasthan.

  • Cultivation of aromatic and medicinal plants

    This project was sanctioned to Krishi Vigyan Kendra Dungarpur during March, 2015 by Commissioner, Tribal Area Development, Dungarpur with the objectives to create awareness about medicinal plants, utilization of wastelands to generate income and improve socio-economic condition of farmers. During the project period, 500 farmers were trained on cultivation techniques of medicinal and aromatic plants and about 50 demonstration units were established on farmers field. The budget outlay is Rs. 50 lacs. During 2015-16, the farmers were selected for trainings and demonstrations.

  • Bio –fuel Project

    a. Demonstrations of Promising Genotypes of Jatropha

    This project was sanctioned during 2010-11 by the Bio-fuel Authority, Govt. of Rajasthan with the objectives to assess the suitability of promising genotypes of Jatropha and to impart technical knowhow to farmers and stake holders. The budget outlay is Rs. 8.25 lacs for five years.

    b. National Network on Integrated Development of Jatropha

    This project was sanctioned during 2005-06 by National Oil Seeds and Vegetable Oils Development Board, Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India, Gurgaon (Haryana) with the budget outlay of Rs. 4.6 lacs per year with aim to Survey and Collection of Superior Planting Material, Progeny Trial of Superior Planting Material and conduct Multi-locational trials.

  • Capacity Building of Tribal Farmers for Seed Production Techniques in Rabi Field Crops

    This project was sanctioned under Tribal Sub Plan from Directorate of Rapeseed-Mustard Research, Sewar, Bharatpur (Rajasthan) during 2013-14 for popularization of latest improved technology in rabi crops among tribal.

  • Horticulture Development in Tribal Areas of Southern Rajasthan Under TSP

    This project was sanctioned under Tribal Sub Plan from Central Institute of Subtropical Horticulture, Lucknow (U.P.) during 2014-15 with the objectives to promote subtropical fruits (Mango and guava) in the tribal areas of Banswara and Dungarpur districts and to rejuvenate the established old orchards.

  • National initiation on fodder technology demonstration

    This project was sanctioned by IGFRI, Jhansi at KVK, Banswara during 2014-15 with the objective to enhance the productivity of fodder crops in the district.

  • National Extension Programme

    This programme was sanctioned by IARI, New Delhi with the aim to disseminate IARI proven latest technology on farmers’ field and to observe the feedback. The farmers were provided critical inputs viz. improved variety seed, fertilizers, chemical etc. alongwith technical knowhow. This programme was implemented at KVK, Chittorgarh. The farmers preferred wheat variety HD-2932 due to less lodging, profuse tillering, high disease tolerance and high yield than local check (Lok-1). The Palak variety Pusa all green has uniform green tender leaves and gives about six cuttings as compared to local check

  • Empowerment of Rural youth through Entrepreneurship Development in remunerative Agri-based enterprises in Banswara district of Rajasthan (ARYA)

    This project was sanctioned to Krishi Vigyan Kendra Banswara during 2015-16 by ICAR New Delhi with the budget outlay of 1.19 crores, The objectives are to attract and empower the youth in rural areas to take various agriculture, allied and service sector enterprises for sustainable income and gainful employment in selected district, to enable the farm youth to establish net work groups to take up resource and capital intensive activities like processing, value addition and marketing and to demonstrate functional linkage with different institutions and stakeholders for convergence of opportunities available under various schemes/ programmme for sustainable development of youth.

  • TSP Project on crops, horticulture, engineering and seed spices

    The TSP programmes sanctioned to Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Banswara during 2014-15 by different ICAR Institutes are as under:

    1. NRCSS, Tabiji, Ajmer - Training and demonstration of seed spices

    2. ARS, Bikaner - Weed control in rabi crops

    3. RCA, MPUAT, Udaipur - Distribution of backyard poultry

    4. ARS, Fatehpur, Sekhawati - Distribution of green gram seeds and irrigation pipes

    5. NSP, SKRAU, Baikaner - Distribution of storage beans
